Access to Care

Charles County offers convenient access to a wide range of healthcare services to meet the needs of the growing community.

The University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (UMCRMC), located in the Town of La Plata, serves as the county’s acute care hospital. UMCRMC provides comprehensive services, including emergency and urgent care, as well as a critical care intensive care unit.  In addition, UMCRMC operates a primary care facility in Bryans Road.

Residents also benefit from specialized care at University of Maryland Specialty Care at Waldorf. This facility features five examination rooms and offers consultations and minor procedures across a variety of surgical specialties. Patients can conveniently complete pre- and post-operative visits at the University of Maryland Specialty Care, with surgeries performed at UMCRMC.

MedStar Shah Medical Group continues to expand its presence in Charles County, with three ambulatory medical office buildings supporting a growing range of services. These include primary care, cardiology, and outpatient surgical procedures.

As Charles County community continues to grow, so does the healthcare sector, continually broadening the range of services available to residents
