Between record heat waves, increasingly severe storms, flooding, drought, warming water temperatures, and the loss of the pollinator species that help cultivate our crops, it is becoming increasingly important that Charles County Government addresses the changing climate.
In order to ensure Charles County’s resilience to the effects of climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and sustain the health and vitality of the community, the County is seeking your assistance in creating a Climate Action Plan to guide government and community action. This Plan will set goals and identify strategies across many sectors that will help us improve our community.

Draft Climate Action Strategies
You are invited to review the draft Climate Action Strategies by clicking the links below. These strategies represent one piece of the Draft Climate Action Plan, which will also include emissions inventories, analyses of existing and predicted future conditions, business-as-usual forecasts, and tracking metrics. This Draft Plan, which is anticipated this fall, will lay out a roadmap for how Charles County Government and the broader community can curb greenhouse gas emissions and help fortify Charles County to the effects of climate change.
The draft Climate Action strategies are open to revision, so after reading through each, you are encouraged to share your thoughts by completing the accompanying feedback forms. The strategies included in the final plan will be prioritized according to a set of scoring metrics including alignment with public feedback. One set of strategies is aimed at creating collaborative action with the community, and one set of strategies is aimed at improving the sustainability of the government operations of Charles County. The Community strategies were developed using input gathered during community outreach efforts, which began in November 2024.
