Charles County Government's Internal Audit Office adheres to the Global Internal Audit Standards issued by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), which require an external quality assessment at least every 5 years.

A peer review determines whether an audit organization's quality control system is appropriately designed, fully implemented, and operating effectively. It also confirms adherence to established polices, procedures and professional auditing standards, ensuring consistent and high-quality audit practices.

The Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) developed the Peer Review Program to help local government audit organizations meet the profession’s external quality assessment requirements.

2025 Peer Review Report

In June 2025, the Charles County Internal Audit Office requested its first external peer review and received the highest rating possible.

This independent assessment provided reasonable assurance that our work conformed to the professional requirements and continues to support our alignment with the IIA's Global Internal Audit Standards.  It also reinforces our commitment to integrity, transparency, accountability, and delivering high-quality audit services to the community.
