Public Hearing: Multiple-Line Telephone Systems

PUBLIC NOTICE

Bill No. 2021-09: MULTIPLE-LINE TELEPHONE SYSTEMS 

The Charles County Commissioners will hold a VIRTUAL Public Hearing on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 6 p.m., to consider legislation concerning multiple-line telephone systems, numbered Bill 2021-09. 

The proposed legislation adds Chapter 283 of the Code of Charles County, titled Multiple-Line Telephone Systems, to ensure that any person using a multiple-line telephone system may direct dial 9-1-1 without dialing any other number of set of numbers. This law will implement Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article Section 1- 314, known as “Kari’s Law.”

The meeting will be held remotely via video teleconference. Persons with questions or requests for more information regarding this hearing may call 301-609-3550. The hearing is open to the public and public testimony is encouraged.

To register to speak during the public hearing, residents must call 301-885-2779 on Nov. 17, 2021, between 8 a.m.

– 4 p.m. At that time, registered speakers will be provided information on how to join the virtual public hearing. Speakers are asked to be available between 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2021. Each speaker will be allotted three

(3) minutes. If a registered speaker is unavailable, the County has the right to move on to the next speaker. Comments will be accepted Oct. 29, 2021, at 8 a.m. through Nov. 17, 2021, 4 p.m. by using the e-comment feature at https://www.charlescountymd.gov/government/public-comments/multiple-line-telephone-systems/

    or by calling 301-645-0652 to leave a message. In addition, residents may submit comments by mail to the following address: Charles County Commissioners, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646. Comments sent by mail must be received no later than Nov. 17, 2021.
