NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Charles County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., in a hybrid format, both virtually and in person, at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland. The County Commissioners of Charles County have determined that it is necessary to revise the approved use under a COVID-19 grant previously awarded by the Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The County has the opportunity to apply for additional funds to purchase materials for the rehabilitation of two transitional homes in Charles County, Maryland.
In compliance with Charles County’s CDBG Citizen Participation Plan, the County Commissioners are inviting public feedback on the plan to revise approved funding use for the following project:
- Funds to purchase materials for transitional homes owned by the County and operated by local non-profits. - $75,000.00
Individuals or representatives of groups wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing.
In-person: Speaker sign-up will begin 30 minutes (1/2 hour) prior to the hearing at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) and will end at the commencement of the hearing.
Virtually: Call (240) 776-6709, between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 20, 2025, to register to speak. Once registered, citizens will receive a virtual link to testify between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. after in-person speakers testify. If you are not available to speak when your name is called, we have the right to move on to the next caller. Each speaker will be allotted three (3) minutes.
Written or voicemail comments may be submitted in lieu of oral testimony, or to expand upon oral testimony, and will be accepted May 14, 2025, starting at 8:00 a.m. through May 20, 2025, 4:30 p.m.

The Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federally funded program designed to assist governments with activities directed toward neighborhood and housing revitalization, economic development, and improved community facilities and services. It is administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
The Maryland CDBG Program reflects the State’s economic and community development priorities and provides public funds for activities which meet one of the following national objectives, in accordance with the federal Housing Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, that:
- benefit to low and moderate income persons and households;
- aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight;
- meet other community development needs of an urgent nature, or that are an immediate threat to community health and welfare.
