Noon – Nanjemoy Community Center (4375 Port Tobacco Road, Nanjemoy, MD, 20662)
Commissioners will attend an event celebrating the establishment of the Southern Maryland Woodlands National Wildlife Refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been given the authority to purchase interest in up to 40,000 acres of critical fish and wildlife habitat over 30 years in Anne Arundel, Prince Georges, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties. This includes purchasing land in fee-simple and conservation easements from willing sellers.
