Area Council on Aging

  •  One (1) Citizen Members

The purpose of the Area Council on Aging is to promote the welfare and betterment of senior citizens of Charles County by working actively and cooperatively within the community; to develop awareness and understanding of problems and concerns; to develop community support for programs designed to benefit and support the senior citizen population.

Board of Electrical Examiners

One (1) Representative of General Public

The tasks of the Board of Electrical Examiners and Supervisors is to examine the qualifications and capabilities of all persons seeking to obtain a Charles County restricted master or homeowner electrical license, enforce electrical apparatus and wiring, adopt and enforce state codes, and investigate complaints against electricians performing work in Charles County.

Board of License Commissioners (Liquor Board)

  •  One (1) District 2 Representative

The task of the Board of License Commissioners is to review and approve the issuance and renewal of liquor licenses in Charles County, and establish penalties for violations. This is a 5 member board appointed by the County Commissioners and authorized/empowered by Alcoholic Beverages Article, of the Annotated Code of Maryland, to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages in Charles County. This board meets the second Thursday of each month at 10:00am in person at the Charles County Government Building. 

Board of Social Services

  • One (1) Citizen Member 

The task of the Board of Social Services is to advise the Director and leadership of the agency on policies, programs, and matters of local interest of the local Dept. of Social Services. The Board is charged with raising public awareness of the work of the Dept. and focusing on customer service to all County residents.
The board meets once a month from 6pm-8pm in-person at the Board of Socials Services located at 200 Kent Place, La Plata, MD 20646. 

Charles County Police Accountability Board

  • One (1) District 3 Representative

The charge of the CCPAB is to hold meetings, not less than quarterly, with heads of law enforcement agencies and otherwise work with law enforcement agencies and the county government to improve matters of policing; Appoint civilian members to charging committees and trial boards as described in the Act; Receive complaints of police misconduct filed by members of the public; On at least a quarterly basis, review outcomes of disciplinary matters considered by charging committees.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council (Charles County)

  • Members who work in the area of substance abuse, prevention and treatment

The Council establishes and implement plans, strategies and priorities for alcohol and drug abuse evaluation, prevention and treatment services in Charles County.

Historic Preservation Commission

  • Seven (7) Citizen Members with demonstrated special interest, specific knowledge or professional or academic training in such fields as history, architecture, architectural history, land use planning, archeology, anthropology, curation, conservation, landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban design or related disciplines. 

The charge of the Historic Preservation Commission is to recommend properties for local historic landmark designation, review exterior changes to locally designated landmarks, and support documentation of historic resources throughout the County.

Library Board of Trustees

  • Two (2) Citizen Members 

The task of the Library Board of Trustees is to deal with all aspects of the library, including services, staff, rules and regulations and other functions for the proper delivery of library services. The board meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m., except either July or August. 

Mental Health Advisory Committee

  • Citizen Members

The task of the Mental Health Advisory Committee is to review and make recommendations regarding services and facilities for mental health programs in Charles County. The Mental Health Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending services and facilities for mental health programs in the County. Members serve three-year terms. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Charles County Department of Health, White Plains. 

Nuisance Abatement Hearing Board

  • One (1) Member

The task of the Nuisance Abatement Hearing Board is to hear citizen complaints regarding unsightly accumulation of paper, junk, vehicle parts, trash, garbage, leaves, etc. and of more than 1 foot high, grass, weeds, uncultivated vegetable growth, briars, bush and plants on private property. The board meets the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
